Caitlin Smith is a Toronto-based composer, clarinetist and saxophonist. Recently awarded a study grant through the Canada Council for the Arts, Caitlin will spend 2008-2009 studying composition with the renowned pianist and composer Jim McNeely in New York city. She is a recent graduate of the jazz program at Humber College, where she studied with John MacLeod, Terry Promane and Don Thompson. Caitlin has also studied composition with Dave McMurdo, Jim McNeely and film composer Christopher Dedrick. She has studied classical clarinet and classical harmony and theory through the Royal Conservatory of Music.
Caitlin works professionally as an arranger, copyist, teacher, and performer. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra Chamber Ensemble; The Darren Sigesmund Big Band; The Sydney Improvising Musicians' (SIMA) Jazz Orchestra in Sydney, Australia; The Hamilton All-Star Big Band with the Canadian Orpheus Men's Choir; and played on the radio station JazzFM 91.1 in Toronto.
